Dear Parents, Carers and students
Welcome to the Highbury Fields School Sixth Form open season pages for 2022-2023 applications. These pages are designed to help you navigate the exciting and sometimes daunting task of choosing and applying to the sixth form, as well as giving you a snapshot of life in our diverse and unique sixth form. The pages are designed to offer you advice on how to choose the right subjects for you, and how to best showcase your skills and qualities in your application.
It is important that you take the time to fully research the courses and institutions which you are interested in to make sure you make the right choice for you. You will spend two years at your chosen sixth form, and you will want to finish those two years with the best possible outcomes in terms of grades, skills developed, opportunities and progression to the next stage of education. When researching sixth forms, it is easy to get caught up in results, Ofsted grades, facilities and what your friends are doing. My main piece of advice to you is to think about these crucial aspects:
* Will this choice lead to the best outcome for me at the end of sixth form
* Will this choice give me the best guidance in choosing my next step in education
* Will this choice give me the best support at times when I struggle?
* Will I feel at home at this choice and be able to give my best?
During the autumn term you should make time to research different sixth form options and be clear on the qualifications you want to apply for. You can start to draft your personal statement for your applications and approach teachers to provide a reference for you if you need one. You will also need to work hard in school because your predicted grades will form an essential part of your application to the sixth form. In the meantime, if you have any questions about applications to sixth form, please do not hesitate to ask me.
