A word from the Director of Sixth Form

Dear parents, carers and students,

Welcome to the Sixth Form at Highbury Fields School. This year's application process is designed to help you navigate the exciting and sometimes daunting task of choosing and applying to the sixth form, as well as giving you a snapshot of life in our diverse and unique sixth form. From Open Evening to Year 12 Induction Day in July, you'll hear from current and previous students as they share their sixth form experiences. You'll meet our Sixth Form Team and the teachers who will support you throughout the application process and into Year 12 and 13. You'll also discover how our first-rate academic curriculum placed us in the top 10% of A-level results across the country.

It is important that you take the time to fully research the courses and institutions which you are interested in to make sure you make the right choice for you. You will spend two years at your chosen sixth form, and you will want to finish those two years with the best possible outcomes in terms of grades, skills developed, opportunities and progression to the next stage of education. When researching sixth forms, it is easy to get caught up in results, Ofsted grades, facilities and what your friends are doing. My main piece of advice to you is to think about these crucial aspects:

  • Will this choice lead to the best outcome for me at the end of sixth form?
  • Will this choice give me the best guidance in choosing my next step in education?
  • Will this choice give me the best support at times when I struggle?
  • Will I feel at home at this choice and be able to give my best?
  • Will I have opportunities to develop beyond my academic studies to be successful?

During the autumn term you should make time to research different sixth form options and be clear on the qualifications you want to apply for. You will also need to work hard in school because your predicted grades will form an essential part of your application to the sixth form. In the meantime, if you have any questions about applications to sixth form, please do not hesitate to ask me or email our Admissions Team: admissions@highburyfields.islington.sch.uk.

Yours faithfully

Ms L Tobia
