2020-07-16 Letter to Parents

Thursday 16th July 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope that you and your families are well and that you are looking forward to some rest over the summer months.

Attached with this letter is an overview of the guidance issued by the Department for Education on Thursday 2nd July regarding the opening of schools in September and, in response to this guidance, the measures that the school needs to put in place.  These measures are necessary to ensure the safe opening of the school to all students and staff, whilst still maintaining a broad and balanced curriculum.  They are drawn from the school’s comprehensive and ‘live’ risk assessment and have been shared with the school’s governing body and the local authority.

I hope that you find the information comprehensive and clear.  As you will see, and probably have anticipated, the school will have to operate very differently from September and for the foreseeable future.  I do not know how long the measures will have to last for and it is quite possible that they will need to evolve in response to local and national circumstances.  Please do share the school’s plans for September with your daughter, as doing so will help prepare her for the procedures that are required to be in place from the start of the new academic year.

Please know that, whilst the new academic year will doubtless bring its challenges and you may well still have questions that need to be answered, I am very confident in the preparation being undertaken and am looking forward very much to welcoming your daughter and all students in September.  From the start of the new academic year, all students will be required by law to attend and the school is carefully planning how to support students with their return.

To help with this planning, I would appreciate it if you could follow the link below and complete the ‘September return to school questionnaire’, by providing information that will help us to support your daughter in September.  Please complete the questionnaire as soon as possible, but certainly by Tuesday 1st September.

September Return to School Questionnaire

As I mentioned in my letter in Friday 3rd July, the start of the academic year will involve considerable staff training and therefore Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September will be INSET days.  Students should return to school at 8.50am on the following days:

I would like to thank you for your support of the school and your daughter during what I know will have been a very trying period of time for you and for her.  I hope that she is excited about returning to school in September and can certainly assure her that all staff at Highbury Fields School are looking forward to seeing her.

Whatever your plans for the summer, I hope that you, your daughter and your families stay safe and well and I will look forward to communicating with you in September.

The email address will not be monitored over the summer holiday, but will remain the best way to contact the school in September.

Yours faithfully

Tim Fox
